This article simultaneously blew my mind, broke my heart and made me cheer.
On the one hand it's heartbreaking to realize how little we allowed some of these icons to shine as their full and true selves. But it's also incredibly inspiring to see the extent of the talent, beauty and determination in this sisterhood!
Where would we be without some of these women?
How much more of their life stories do we not know? How much more badass are they than we ever realized, to have not only survived but slayed the game despite the twin stigmas of being Black and queer? How grateful we should be to realize how much they contributed to uplifting Black America, all the while so much of Black America failed to properly uplift them.
Glad to see them finally recognized for everything that made them who they are and to see our history reflect the truth.
