I’m not sure how much I want to go into detail because this topic will could be troll attractant and nobody has time for that kind of shit but there is something that has been bothering me since this morning.
This morning I caught part of an interview with a former intern who worked with the two reporters who were killed yesterday a couple of years back. Dude went on about how sweet the woman was and how great the guy was yadda yadda yadda. He made a point to point out how difficult Mr. Flannagan was etc gushing about the ‘family” that is this news organization. (Never conflate work with family that’s some dumb shit and generally used to screw you over. Work is about money. Don’t ever get it twisted employers like to twist it because it makes it easier to jerk you around when it comes to money) He also discussed the lack of racism he experienced there (This co-worker is Black.) Of course the implication was that because this Black man in front of the interviewer says that he didn’t experience any racism than well you can dismiss any claims of such by Mr. Flannagan.
This doesn’t sit right with me. I’m not saying that the man is lying about his experiences. No, that’s not really the issue. My thing is this: this is an office and we all know how workplaces can be different from place to place even time to time. The experiences I had working 2nd shift at my job was different than how I experienced the same work place during the day shift and both were different than midnight shift. My point is that dynamics change and basing someone else’s experience based on how you were treated is ignorant fuckery and something that is done all too often to dismiss the claims of POC especially if the POC is unfortunate enough to be in the “out” group.
Let’s be real the office is barely any different from high school there are cliques and people who are in the in group and the out group and when the in group is also favored by management there’s a whole lot of petty, trifling, childish, nonsense that can be gotten to by otherwise grown ass people which unfortunately includes targeting someone for whatever petty ass reason one person decides they don’t like them. Hell this can happen even if management doesn’t know it’s going on (other than the complaints from the person being shut out) it’s not like being two-faced is a new phenomena or anything.
Of course it goes without saying, so I’m going to say it because people are fucking stupid and I don’t want a repeat of yesterday’s trollfest, regardless of how shitty your co-workers are to you there’s no excuse to go hunt them down to gun them down. (Obviously) However, bringing this dude (who I’m going to try really hard to not just assume he’s an ashy motherfucker) out in order to have him repeat the talking points about how it wasn’t the station but the shooter as though an office full of people never took time to fuck with someone by sabotaging their work is ridiculous nonsense and dude should have had enough sense to stay out of that shit and away from the TV cameras.
Perhaps I’m overthinking it but I literally stumbled across the interview by turning on the TV when I got up in the morning and even half awake and not wearing my glasses something about the interview didn’t sit right with me.
The interview is at the HLN website for the Morning Express show. (I was watching Forensic Files that’s my excuse for even having this station on when I woke up.) I don’t really want to link to these fuckers to be honest.
Is it just me?
