Our own Jason Johnson (politics editor at the Root and MSNBC contributor) and Tiffany Cross (executive editor of The Beat DC & soon to be Fellow, Harvard Institute of Politics) reminded us yesterday on AM Joy that black media has the additional burden of keeping so-called MAINSTREAM media honest …

… or as honest as possible to give American people the facts concerning what is ACTUALLY happening as opposed to letting itself continue to be dragged via the Mc-Connell-forced Overton Window to the “right” (where, ironically, Americans have less and less rights) where all that exists is propaganda where the performers try to convince (or browbeat, as is too often the case) the American people WRT what they WANT them (us) to think happened (or is happening or will happen).

As just one example, I know everyone here heard about what happened at the National Archives (and how now we have all this backtracking and how they’ve apologized but how – and I hope others have noticed other than me – they have to date outlined no concrete steps nor a timeline as to how exactly they plan to rectify that mistake)

This all feels pretty relevant today right now with everything going on in Congress and our Executive Branch especially (as well as within our judiciary branch, completely with the attendant and repeated attempts at its corruption from the #GangOfPutin).

And for anyone who brings up “butbutbut Mike Bloomberg is in Tulsa RIGHT NOW with promises of prosperity!!11!” I want to remind all those people why exactly he picked Tulsa, and not just because it was just featured on Watchmen

as well as asking those people that if comparative economic opportunity and parity was something he really cared about as a Republican mayor of New York City, why he didn’t do something about it then instead of pushing the stop-and-frisk policy that traumatized hundreds of thousands of black individuals and families in addition to plundering any financial well-being they might have had through the travesty of cash bail for even minor offenses?

Does this feel like a bribe to anyone else? Out of the literal billions that Mike Bloomberg has? IINM, that’s approximately 25% of Stacey Abrams’ budget for Fair Fight Action. Since he’s a billionaire, coiuld he not have funded that project if he’s so devoted to empowerment for people who’ve been systemically, systematically (see generally, WI, OH, and FL 2020, as well as 1920 and 1968), and institutionally disenfranchised?

Since he’s a billionaire, is a reason he can’t afford both??

Meanwhile, Chris Collins and Duncan Hunter still walk around free (even though IIRC one of them has been sentenced to jail for his felonies and one has pled guilty, and IIRC the one who’s pled guilty is still bopping around pretending he’s a Congressperson and still has yet to officially resign).

I also have questions for all the current Democratic nominees, but for Klobuchar and Buttigieg in particular, whom I heard just last night about how apparently they had to cancel whatever their “standard” campaign events would have been and scrambled to put something together in recognition of the national holiday – one that’s particularly relevant as the combination of corporate wanna-be authoritarians, violent white nationalists, and outright propagandists try to drag the country further to the so-called “right” (though IMO, there’s nothing “right” about any of it).

Does anybody reasonable think they would have – and should have - planned something far ahead of time for a national holiday if they were & are to be at all credible when they put forth platitudes that are the opposite of “I’m sorry, black people and other marginalized people remain just an afterthought?”

I hadn’t planned to put any of this down today (those who know a little more about me know I’ve got some urgent concerns that need to be attended to related to family illness). But it came flowing out, I think in part because it feels like one of those things where, if the conditions that overstressed the family, “even” a family of minority professionals, that would not have existed if the country was actually fair instead of just pretending to be – additional fact: did anybody else know that the actual date of Dr. King’s assassination was just days before he was going to lead an economic equity March on Washington with a campaign as organized as the one the Rev Dr Barber is leading now? Did anybody else know Reverend Barber (also affiliated with the Harvard IOP like Tiffany) has also been arrested multiple times at state capitols attempting to exercise his & his arguable constituents’ Constitutional rights to free speech and assembly because no #GangOfPutin so-called “law”makers wanted to hear what he had to say? – then I wouldn’t have had any occasion to put any of it down in the first place.
