A Space for People of Color, By People of Color. Be Cool.

Black (Girl) Excellence

A Jamaican woman, Anne-Marie Campbell, has been named Executive Vice President in charge of all the Home Depot stores in the United States.

Part of what makes this so incredible is that Campbell began her career at Home Depot in 1985, working as a cashier while she was in college. She now oversees EVERY. DAMN. STORE. in the country in addition to sitting on the board of directors of Potbelly Corporation and Barnes & Noble. In 2014, Fortune Magazine listed her as one of its 50 most powerful women in business.

I have to admit that the first thing that popped to mind (as it so often does...peep the screenname) was this old In Living Color skit:

Because for real, you gotta be a working ass bitch to go from cashier to damn near COO. I can’t say as I’ve ever seen that kind of motivation at my local Home Depot, but maybe her example will be an inspiration to them.

In the meantime, this one’s for you Anne-Marie!
