'Colour of our skin': Photo series about dark-skinned woman sends powerful message

Trigger warning for assault and extreme emotion.

‘Colour of our skin’ is a story of a dark-skinned woman in a society that is obsessed with fair skin. The photo series by photographer Arjun Kamath captures Ranika’s journey towards accepting that she is beautiful. It leaves behind a strong message for us who live in a world that is biased against dark-skinned people.

For Kamath, the idea behind the story is simple: to stop judging people for the way they look - dark, fair, slim, overweight etc. “Life’s a short beautiful journey and it’s important that we make it memorable, pleasant and worthwhile for ourselves as well as everyone else around us. Live and let live,” he told TOI.
