… and at least lead with the good news. Daddy Denzel is going to be mighty proud of his (fine) baby son and his Best Actor in a Motion Picture Golden Globe nomination, and Black Panther has a Best Picture nomination.

Regina King got two nominations. She better win something.

I am not thrilled that BlacKKKlansman , Black Panther AND If Beale Street Could Talk have to go up against each other for Best Picture Drama.

That’s a setup for them to cancel each other out and A Star Is Born to walk away with the statue with no additional discussion as to why that happened. #Hmm

I opened up a discussion elsewhere about how and why Green Book opened the awards season with a Best Picture nomination and a Best Actor award for Viggo Mortensen without Mahershala Ali – who already owns an Oscar – being mentioned “in the draw” as it were. With those selections and those omissions (because you know I am a fan of pointing out those steady impositions of a certain power structure which I suspect are invisible because they are designed to be missed #FeatureNotABug), I feel a narrative being reinforced.

Is this the only Portrayal of the Racism with which white cultural influencers and gatekeepers – who, let’s be real, take their cues from the constituencies they serve – “feel comfortable” (somebody is going to have to save me from that phrase)?

In which there is just one “shocking incident” (which is not at all shocking to anybody watching, especially anybody watching servicemen get gunned down in the back for #BeingServicemenWhileBlack and POC getting shot by white police while in their own house minding their own business, but #MindingTheirBusinessWhileBlack) and because the two lead characters in the movie “get along so well”, we can pretend as a culture that “that’s all in the past” even as the NAACP thinks seriously and not just capriciously about reviving the Green Book because a culture and country where the Orange Man in the White House deliberately tells his Mar-A-Lago MAGA cronies, weaseled into the VA to siphon its funds away from even white servicepeople, neither to say or do anything about the ensconced white supremacist nationalists even as he and his Keebler Sessions former A.G. took them off the counterterrorism and counterintelligence watchlists as close to Day One of their Maladministration as they could … even as even federal LEOs are beginning to admit the omission of white nationalists from their terrorist watchlists is becoming (hah) a serious enforcement problem they can’t effectively handle, is a culture and country where no citizen of color feels safe??
