First of all, watch the Real Housewives of Potomac. This franchise is what all RH needs to be. These women are just the right amount of everything, and I live. The cast vibes well off each other with their messiness and great one-liners. However, I’ve come to the conclusion that Karen “Kurn” Huger and Sheree “Who gonna check me boo/Joggers!/Spring...Summer” Whitfield are the same person. Allow me to elaborate:
On RHOP, the self-proclaimed “Grand Dame” is Karen who is married to Ray “Dr. Black Bill Gates” Huger. Karen is...a lot. She is entertaining and confident but there’s a fine line between that and hubris. Karen oooooozes delusions of grandeur so much that it dawned on me that she and Sheree are exactly the same, Kurn just has more money (I think?)
After getting the RHOP casted, Andy Cohen told the ladies that their series would be separate from the other RH, like Below Deck, and that it would be a show about etiquette. Why any of these women believed that nonsense when they have working eyes and technology to view any and all previous seasons is the question but they believed Andy. He must have hammered that point because that’s all Karen would talk about. Most of the cast as well, but Karen seemed the most about it.
If memory serves, in S1, Karen alluded that she came from humble beginnings before she met Ray and she talked about having to learn etiquette, like serving tea, which she did for her mother-in-law in one televised scene. Karen’s MIL told her the tea was cold.
Karen also got into with the cast over what she deemed as bad etiquette. Strictly based off how she presented herself in season one, she seemed completely and utterly bougie.
(Also, for all the money they have, these women had some terrible style choices.)
At the beginning of season two, whispers surrounding Karen’s finances started getting louder and it was due to Karen. First, she said that since her last child was going off to school, the Hugers didn’t need a big house so they were going to move.
Then she said Ray wanted to downsize although she referred to it as “resizing” before changing her mind again and stating they wanted to move into a larger house outside of the Potomac community because of her sick parents.
Unsurprisingly, it came out that Ray and Karen owe millions of dollars in back taxes. If you didn’t follow the link, it was reported in The Washington Post, so the shit was serious. Karen’s behavior was insane and it was obvious she was freaking out behind closed doors while deflecting. She even said you have to make millions to owe millions.
Thing is, the cast had Karen’s back and told her as much. Multiple times. All they asked for in exchange was that Karen give them the truth so that they could know what they were defending. All reasonable requests.
However, Karen had started to regress back to “Kurn” and Kurn was defensive about her friends literally saying “we support you but can you just tell us wtf is happening??” Kurn criticized the ladies for talking about behind her back, which they were because they were trying to make sense of things due to Kurn’s ever-changing story. Kurn got even more heated and called a *press conference.*
If you watch one thing from RHOP, watch this mess (S3E2.) It was beyond frustrating to see Kurn continuously attack her friends over a simple request to be real with them. How refreshing is it to see a RH group of women come together and support a friend yet hold her accountable? Lost on Kurn.
Now, in fairness, Karen had just lost both of her parents within months of each other and the added stress of keeping up with appearance started to break her. I can sympathize with her to a point but her behavior can be insufferable.
This is around the time that Kurn’s true colors lit up. This woman is country. It’s fine, I have many country black folks in my family, but it was clear that Kurn is the true face and Karen and her bougieness is just what Kurn thinks is all proper and good.
I don’t hate her but she’s grating on my nerves.
Admittedly, I haven’t watched the fourth season as it’s not on Hulu yet. I have read some things when I catch recaps but this season seems centered around Ashley Darby (for another discussion.)
Next Up: Sheree Whitfield
Jesus lord, where to start. If there was one housewife I figured would monopolize her platform, it would have been cool, stylish Sheree Whitfield and her bangin, sculpted body. She has always had a very high opinion of herself. Confidence typically sells.
Also making its debut in season 1? She by Sheree! Sheree’s non-existent clothing line has been talked about (by her) for years now and doesn’t even have a headband to show for it. She sent her designs off to a tragic designer and promptly started planning a fashion show. When she got the terrible samples, she decided to just have a party and make it a “viewing”, complete with blown up pictures of her design sketches. When people inquired about the clothes, she doubled down and said she never said what “they were viewing.”
Dwight, one of the best things to happen to reality television, spoke for the everyone.
(I googled what Dwight was up to since leaving RHOA and he got married to a woman. Sorry, the website is trash.)
Anyhow, Dwight eventually helped Sheree produce a proper fashion show, claiming to have donated thousands of dollars of his own money. That caused some friction and Sheree burned that bridge. She’s actually quite good at doing that.
She by Sheree quickly became a running joke but that didn’t deter Sheree from making a t-shirt line with her most known catchphrase.
These shirts came out in 2017. Sheree made that remark in season two...which was in 2009.
Also making a debut alongside the non-existent clothing line was Sheree and her ex-football player husband, Bob’s divorce. She stated she was expecting to get “seven figures” and told the world she was building a house she called “Chateau Sheree.” This was as much a part of her as She by Sheree. I followed the bullshit surrounding her house on straightfromthea, as ATLien was heavily invested on researching Sheree’s finances. In short, she has none and was/is drowning in debt. That didn’t stop her from buying an Aston Martin
and showing it off on television. The car got repossessed to pay off $110,000 in fees that Sheree didn’t pay her divorce lawyers.
Like her clothing line, Sheree wouldn’t stfu about her house and due to her legal issues, demanded more money after season four. Bravo told her to go work on her clothing line and cast Kenya and Porsha. After that, Sheree went on Iyanla: Fix My Life with her ex, Bob, hoping to be better co-parents. Iyanla had a couple of thoughts about Chateau Sheree.
Since Iyanla didn’t tell her what she wanted to hear, Sheree tried finding a partner on Millionaire Matchmaker. That didn’t work either but it was around the time that Bravo asked if she wanted to come back for season 10. She jumped on it.
That was a bit of a disaster for Sheree since she choose to align herself with Kim Z. At the reunion, Andy asked about her clothing line.
Sheree had to scramble to have something ready and this is what it was:
“The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum, 48, gave Us Weekly an exclusive sneak peek at her 2019 Spring Summer Collection on Monday, November 5.”
The shade is real.
I googled “when do spring collections debut” and the answer: “For example, a huge wave of spring merchandise will become available in January or February, but true summer styles may emerge as late as April. Fall and fall transitional items will hit the racks by July or August, but another group of slightly heavier, wintry pieces will show up in September.”
Here’s my issue: I fucking wish Sheree had come out with women’s athletic line because she has a smokin’ hot body.
AND she’s fit as hell so if anyone should have released a fitness video, it should have been Sheree Whitfield. She could have been one of the first to do a fitness/casual wear line that has been beaten to death on Project Runway. Women want to look good and if Sheree had put out “my daily exercise regime” videos or opened up a gym or a yoga studio and released an athletic line alongside with it, she could have made bank.
That’s all. Thank you for reading.
