Serena and Venus are out, but there are still good things happening at Roland-Garros! [update]

Coco Gauff won the Girls’ Singles title! Unfortunately, Sloane Stephens lost in the Women’s Singles final to Simona Halep 6-3, 4-6, 1-6. Congrats to both!

I know it’s hard to find the enthusiasm after Serena and Venus are out of an event, but not all is lost!

There is an all-American semifinal and US Open rematch between Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys. Both are playing their best tennis since that final and I think we’ll be treated to a much more competitive match this time around. (I give the slight advantage to Madison if her serve is on.)

In the Girls’ Singles, 14-year-old phenom and 2017 US Open finalist Coco Gauff has made it to the quarterfinals. She took out the number two seed Wang Xinyu. Gauff is gonna be one to watch in the next five or so years.

Mary Sharapova just lost to Garbiñe Muguruza. No surprise there. The Spaniard is Venezuelan by birth (her mom is Venezuelan and her father is Basque Spanish—the more you know). Mary stay losing to ethnic women and you know it bothers her. I only mention that as a segue to...

Diana Taurasi is the GOAT. It’s just a damn fact now. She went to UConn and I find that gross, but she is the GOAT. Her parents are from Argentina and I don’t think that aspect gets mentioned as much. The greatest shooter of all time is a Latina and there is not enough written about her.

Also, the USWNT has friendlies against China Thursday and Tuesday. Should be interesting. There are several WOC on the roster. The team will be wearing their Pride kits and I’m so happy there is no room for this particular bigot on the team.
